Get ready to go green, Overton! Sustainable Overton’s much-loved Green Weekend is back on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June, packed full of fun, hands-on events designed to celebrate nature, encourage sustainable living, and bring the whole community together.
Whether you’re a budding eco-warrior, a curious kiddo, or just fancy a swap and a slice of cake, there’s something for everyone across this two-day celebration of all things green.
Highlights of Green Weekend 2025:
🌳 Junk Jodie’s Tree-Tastic Show
Saturday, 10:00–11:00am – Community Centre
She’s recycled, she’s resourceful, and she’s roaring back into Overton! Junk Jodie returns with Tree-TASTIC – a rainforest romp starring Jenny Jaguar, made from a plastic bottle, on an eco-adventure through the Amazon. With singalongs, recycled animal friends, and a mini craft activity to round things off, it’s the perfect start to the weekend for younger audiences.
🐝 Pollinator Pledge Map Pinning
Saturday, 10:00am–2:00pm – Community Centre Forecourt
Join the buzz and show some love for our local pollinators. Stick a pin in the map and pledge your garden (or balcony!) to be a bee-friendly haven. The more patches we pledge, the more connected our pollinator pathways become.
🥕 Community Kitchen Garden: Veg Tasting & Plant ID
Saturday, 11:00am–2:00pm – Behind the RedFort
Wander into the edible jungle behind the RedFort to sample some home-grown delights and put your plant knowledge to the test. A fantastic hands-on way to teach kids where food really comes from—spoiler: not a plastic tray.
👗 Clothes Swap at St. Mary’s Hall
Saturday, 12:00–2:00pm (Drop-off from 11:00am)
Refresh your wardrobe and your conscience. Bring in your pre-loved clothes, grab something “new” in return, and help cut down on fast fashion. The Overton Guides will be fuelling the swap with tea and cake sales for Cancer UK—secondhand style never tasted so sweet.
🎨 Rock Painting at the Kitchen Garden
Sunday, 11:00am–2:00pm – Behind the RedFort
Get arty in the garden with a family-friendly rock painting session. Will you paint a bee, a bug, or a beetroot? Leave it behind as a garden decoration or take it home as a Green Weekend keepsake.
🐞 E.C.O. Church Wildlife Activities
Sunday, 12:00–5:00pm – Churchyard & Online
The E.C.O. Church is throwing open its churchyard gates for a day of wildlife exploration. With activities for all ages, it’s a great chance to discover the creatures sharing our sacred green spaces.
🐝 Bees and Bugs at Little Meadow
Sunday, 1:00–4:00pm – Opposite North Field
Explore the wildflowers, spot the insects, and learn about beekeeping at Little Meadow. It’s a bug’s life—and a fascinating one, at that.
🐟 River Dipping at Flashetts
Sunday, 1:00–4:00pm – Flashetts
Don your wellies and take the plunge with Holly for some river dipping fun. Find out what lurks beneath the surface, from slippery fish to tiny water critters. No experience needed—just curiosity and maybe a towel.
Green Weekend is a celebration of community spirit, creativity, and care for the planet. Whether you’re swapping clothes, pledging for pollinators, or dancing with a plastic bottle jaguar, you’ll be helping make Overton a greener, greater place to live.
