Red Lion gets ready to ‘Brave the Dave’

This Sunday is St David’s Day and The Red Lion in Overton is going to crowbar in as many Davids as possible.

Between 3.30pm and 6.30pm, the High Street pub will be celebrating a bit of Welshness and a bit of Davidness, all while raising money for volunteer charity The Farming Community Network with a series of fun quizzes, activities and… tractors.

Bonafide Davids will get a free pint of ale, but all customers (of all names!) can buy an optional £5 ticket – with all proceeds going to The Farming Community Network – to have multiple chances to win other prizes of food, drink, cash and, it’s hoped, Combine Harvester rides.

The ticket gives customers access to all the afternoon’s games and activities which include music and picture quizzes, ‘Guess the Number of Daves’ and their popular £100+ weekly meat raffle and music quiz ‘Meats & Beats’.

The idea evolved when, on a quiet afternoon, it was pointed out that the pub had 6 Davids drinking in bar.  The simple idea to get lots of Davids in the pub was based on the idea that ‘there can’t be more than 30 in the village’.

“Comments on the Basingstoke Gazette Facebook page suggests almost 500 Davids could be willing to pop in”, says Landlord David Harber.

“Gulp”, he adds.
