Two important wins put both of Overton United’s Saturday teams in a good position as it comes down to the business end of the season.
The weekend proved to be a massive success for the club. Both the First Team and the Reserves secured vital points to keep their momentum high as the final stretch of the league approaches.
First Team Edge Past Mob Albion
The First Team faced a tough challenge against a resilient Mob Albion side. In a tightly contested match, Overton managed to secure a 1-0 victory thanks to a clinical finish from Macauley Martin just before half time.
Martin continues his incredible run of form. That strike marks his 14th goal in only 11 games. While the attack provided the lead, the defence stood firm to keep the points safe.
Goalkeeper Chrissy Tombs earned yet another clean sheet. It is his 10th shutout of the season in just 19 appearances, proving why the backline is so hard to break down.
Next Up: The First Team faces a long trip to the New Forest as they travel to take on Sway FC.
Reserves Demolish Rushmoor
The Reserves put on a masterclass this weekend, dismantling Rushmoor Community Select in a 10-1 goal fest. This dominant result puts the team in a great position with only six league games remaining in the season.
Ash Elward was the star of the show, netting a clinical hat-trick. His tally now stands at an impressive 11 goals in just 7 games. The scoring was spread across the squad, showing the depth of talent currently available.
The Goal Scorers:
- Ash Elward (3)
- Matt Dean
- Paul Baker
- Adam Butler
- Johnie Gurney
- Danny Costen
- Josh Ralph
- Declan Muspratt
Next Up: The Reserves take a break from league action as they host Headley Reserves in the cup.
