Fall Prevention Workshop comes to Overton this March

A free community Fall Prevention Workshop will take place in St Mary’s Church Rooms, Overton on Wednesday 18 March, from 1pm to 2.30pm.

The event is being organised by Lucy Hughes from Let’s Do Pilates and Robert Green, osteopath based at Shire House, Waltham Road.

The workshop is open to people of all ages and will focus on how to reduce the risk of falls, improve balance and stay active for longer. Short, easy-to-follow talks will explain why fall prevention matters at every stage of life, not just in later years.

Those attending will learn practical techniques to improve balance, strength and confidence, all aimed at supporting everyday independence. The programme is based on clinical experience and research and has been shown to reduce falls by up to 88 per cent. Exercises will be adapted for different fitness levels and health needs, so everyone can take part safely and comfortably.

The session will also look at what to do if you do fall, how to recover well, and how to rebuild confidence afterwards. Strength-based exercises that help improve bone density in areas most at risk of fracture will also be explained.

There will be time to ask questions, meet other members of the local community and speak directly with the practitioners. The building has easy access, and registration is not required.

Tea and coffee will be provided, along with a free therapy pack for each person attending. The pack includes an exercise resistance band, hand putty, a booklet of fall-prevention exercises and a guide to improving balance and strength.

Further information about the role of nutrition in supporting bone density is expected to be provided by Sarah Thomason from Mighty Women Wellbeing.

Residents are encouraged to share the event with friends, family and neighbours who may benefit from practical, friendly support to stay active and safe.
