Motorists are being advised to take extra care this week as Year 6 pupils at Overton Primary School take part in their Bikeability training.
With many children gaining confidence riding on local roads, residents can expect to see a noticeable increase in young cyclists travelling to and from school during peak times. The busiest periods are expected to be between 8:00am and 8:30am in the morning and 3:30pm and 4:00pm in the afternoon.
Bikeability is the UK’s national cycle training programme, designed to equip children with the practical skills and confidence they need to ride safely and responsibly on the road.
Drivers are reminded to be patient, reduce their speed where appropriate, allow plenty of space when overtaking cyclists, and remain alert, particularly near the school and on surrounding routes.
The training provides pupils with valuable road safety experience and encourages healthy, sustainable travel. By taking a little extra care this week, everyone can help ensure the children enjoy a safe and positive Bikeability experience.
