Overton will ring with music, laughter and the beat of dancing feet as the village marks its annual Winter Wassail on Saturday, January 3rd.
The much-loved tradition invites residents to gather, sing and take part in a lively orchard blessing that dates back centuries. The aim is simple: wake the trees from their winter rest and encourage a fine crop in the year ahead.
The procession meets at the Old House at Home at 1.30pm, before setting off at 2pm toward Overton Community Orchard. Once there, the crowd will join in singing, dancing and general merrymaking, keeping alive a custom that blends folklore with community spirit.
Organisers say everyone is welcome, from seasoned wassailers to those experiencing the event for the first time. Warm clothing and strong singing voices are recommended. The orchard promises plenty of noise, cheer and a bright start to the new year.
