Organisers have confirmed that the Overton Sheepfair will return on the 15th and 16th of July 2028 – and this time, it is stepping back into the 1980s.
Residents are being encouraged to dig out the Lycra, leg warmers and big hair, as the much-loved village event takes on a retro theme for its next edition.
The Sheepfair has deep roots in Overton’s history, dating back to the 13th century. In those early days, sheep drovers travelled from across the area to bring livestock to the village to be bought and sold, turning Overton into a busy rural marketplace.
After centuries of tradition faded, the event was revived in the year 2000 as a large-scale community celebration. Since then, it has become a popular quadrennial event, bringing together residents and visitors for a weekend of entertainment, stalls and family activities.
The 2028 fair promises to blend that long history with a dose of nostalgia, as organisers prepare a programme inspired by one of the most colourful decades in recent memory.
More details about attractions and activities are expected to be announced closer to the event. For now, one thing is clear – Overton is getting ready to party like it’s 1985.
