Overton Youth FC Ladies Show True Grit in Tough Away Defeat

Overton Youth FC Ladies suffered a 4–1 defeat away to Alton on Sunday, in a match that tested both their endurance and team spirit under difficult circumstances.

The visitors made a strong start, taking an early lead from a well-delivered corner that was expertly converted by Gem. But the team was dealt a major blow within the opening ten minutes when an ankle injury reduced them to ten players for the remainder of the match — with no substitutes available.

Despite being a player down for over 80 minutes, Overton continued to press forward and create goal-scoring chances, with every player showing remarkable resilience and commitment. However, Alton, with the benefit of a full bench and fresh legs, were able to break through the tiring Overton defence on several occasions to secure the win.

The match was brought to an early close with just one minute remaining following a serious and unfortunate injury to Overton’s Maja. The midfielder was stretchered off and taken to hospital, where it was later confirmed she had suffered a fracture to her lower leg.

The entire Overton squad, along with coaches, management and supporters, are sending their thoughts and best wishes to Maja as she begins her recovery. She will be sorely missed for the remainder of the season.

Special thanks have been extended to Alton Ladies FC players and staff, particularly those with medical training, for their swift, professional and compassionate response to the incident. Their care and support in assisting Maja on the pitch and ensuring her comfort until paramedics arrived was deeply appreciated.

Though the result didn’t go their way, Overton’s performance was one of pride, courage, and unwavering team spirit — the kind of display that transcends the scoreline.
