Overton United saw their ten-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 2–1 defeat away at Hedge End Town. The result marks their first league loss of the season and closes a run of form that had pushed the side to the top of the table.
Hedge End made a fast start, opening the scoring in the second minute after capitalising on a loose ball in the box. The home team doubled their lead on 27 minutes with a well-taken finish that left United chasing the game for the remainder of the half.
United improved after the break and applied sustained pressure, eventually pulling a goal back midway through the second half. Despite a stronger spell of possession and several late chances, the equaliser never came, and Hedge End held on for all three points.
Elsewhere, Overton United Reserves progressed in the cup without playing. Their tie against Newtown United was cancelled when Newtown confirmed they could not field a side, sending Overton through to the next round by default.
