Overton Music Festival: Saturday Afternoon Preview

A full Saturday afternoon of live music, local stalls, food, and family activities will turn the Community Centre into a busy hub of sound, colour, and movement.

The afternoon programme runs from 12:30pm through to 6:20pm, with performances spaced throughout the day so visitors can come and go, explore the stalls, and still catch plenty of live acts.

Live Performances

The stage opens at 12:30pm with Stonesyrup, a young indie rock band bringing a fresh, energetic start to the afternoon. Expect original songs and covers with a strong guitar-led sound.

From there, the schedule moves quickly:

  • 12:30pm – 12:55pm – Stonesyrup (young indie rock band)
  • 1:00pm – 1:30pm – Marina School of Dance
  • 1:40pm – 2:05pm – Cold Toast (Irish and English folk favourites)
  • 2:15pm – 2:40pm – Sarah Hawkyard (songs of love and faith)
  • 2:50pm – 3:15pm – Southampton Ukulele Jam
  • 3:20pm – 3:55pm – Jack Sing Now Choir (upbeat popular songs)
  • 4:00pm – 4:30pm – Southampton Ukulele Jam
  • 4:40pm – 5:05pm – Lola Gibbard (Overton favourite)
  • 5:15pm – 5:40pm – Cocktail Choir (fun-loving singers)
  • 5:50pm – 6:20pm – Steve Donnelly (acoustic classics)

The variety is wide. Dance, folk, choir, solo acoustic sets, and community music groups all share the same stage. The return of Southampton Ukulele Jam for a second set gives the afternoon a light, playful rhythm in between stronger vocal performances.

By early evening, Steve Donnelly closes the line-up with stripped-back acoustic classics, bringing a calmer end to a busy day.

Inside the Community Centre

Inside the Community Centre, stalls will offer a strong mix of handmade goods, local produce, and gifts. It’s the kind of space where you walk in for “a quick look” and come out with three bags and a cake you didn’t plan to buy.

Food lovers will find plenty of choice. Dotty About Cakes will serve cakes and bakes, while Fabulous Fruit Company brings preserves, chutneys, fruit curds, and sauces.

Craft and gift stalls include:

  • CMF: Sterling silver jewellery
  • Vitanova: handmade jewellery using preloved beads
  • Irene Newbury: knitting, cards, crafts, and jewellery
  • Handmade by Patsy: children’s T-shirts, aprons, and hair bands
  • Nichola: greeting cards, notebooks, home décor, and gift boxes

Alongside this, Overton Heritage will host a Jane Austen exhibition, adding a cultural touch to the indoor space and offering visitors a chance to explore local history alongside the shopping.

Outside Forecourt Stalls

The forecourt area will be packed with traders, crafts, and food vendors, creating a lively outdoor market feel.

Food will be a major focus. Visitors can choose from:

  • S J Catering: burgers, hot dogs, breakfast baps, and fries
  • Gather & Dine: slow cooked pulled pork baps with apple sauce or BBQ sauce, served with mini roast potatoes and stuffing

For something different, Myndful Mushrooms will offer Hampshire-grown mushroom tinctures, while Happy Adjika brings natural chilli paste for those who like heat with flavour.

Craft stalls will include stained glass, crochet items, upcycled art, candles, refill snacks, and personalised gifts. Among them:

  • Mystical Hedgehogs: stained glass, lanterns, and sun catchers
  • Sophie: crochet clothing, ponchos, tops, bags, and bookmarks
  • Be Bougie: vegan-friendly candles, wax melts, and reed diffusers
  • The Village Refillery: nuts, snacks, and pick ’n’ mix
  • TLE Crafts: personalised gifts, clothing, baby blankets, and bouquets
  • Diane Siford: upcycled paintings and bead work

Family Zone and Play Area

The outside play area is designed for families, with simple hands-on activities and plenty of space for children to move around.

Oakley Stitchers will run a Teddy Bear Hospital, offering soft toy repairs and a gentle “check-up” experience for well-loved toys.

Nearby, the family zone includes:

  • Face painting, glitter, and henna tattoos from Inkhearts
  • Children’s 3D toys from Sheldon Jowett
  • A selfie activity table from Step by Step children’s charity
  • Free musical learning activities for all ages through Musication
  • A bouncy castle, which will likely remain the busiest attraction all afternoon, regardless of weather forecasts or snack breaks

St Mary’s Hall

Inside St Mary’s Hall, visitors will find a quieter space with refreshments and additional activities.

Homemade cakes and hot drinks will be served throughout the afternoon, offering a break from the busier outdoor areas.

Alongside refreshments, there will be:

  • Face painting, glitter, and henna tattoos from Inkhearts
  • A children’s charity selfie activity table from Step by Step
  • 3D toys for younger visitors
  • Musical learning sessions through Musication, supported by Juliet Henderson and Hampshire County Council
