The new cricket season gets underway this weekend for Overton Cricket Club, with a busy few days of fixtures across senior, junior, and girls’ teams as the club returns to action for the 2026 campaign.
Saturday sees all three senior Saturday sides in action, with the 1st XI making the trip to face Chawton CC at 1pm. The 2nd XI begin their season at home at Bridge Street, where they welcome St Marys CC, Hants 1st XI, while the 3rd XI also have home advantage at Berrydown against Basingstoke Capital CC 2nd XI.
Sunday brings junior cricket to the fore, with Overton’s Girls Under 9 side hosting Hursley Park CC Girls U9B at Berrydown from 9:30am. Later in the morning, the Under 13s take on St Mary Bourne CC Under 13 in an 11:30am start.
The Bank Holiday Monday action continues with the Midweek XI travelling to May’s Bounty for a 5:45pm clash against Ashford Hill CC Midweek XI, while the Girls Under 15 side are away to Odiham & Greywell CC for a 6pm fixture.
With strong numbers across all age groups and teams, the opening weekend marks another important chapter for the club as players, families, and supporters return to the boundary edge for another summer of village cricket.
After months of winter preparation, nets, and waiting for the British weather to behave itself for at least five minutes, the whites are back out and the sound of leather on willow returns.
For many, cricket season is not just about results, but about community, long afternoons at the ground, and the simple joy of spending time outdoors watching local sport at its best. Overton will be hoping for a strong start across the board as the new season begins.
