Sunday Meat Raffle and Draw, Red Lion Overton

Lion’s Live Music and ‘Bumper Meat Raffle’

There’s live music and a bumper meat raffle at The Red Lion tomorrow.  Martin Wood and his bluesmen, ‘The Rag and Moan Men’ will be performing in the afternoon, following Sunday Lunch.

The Rag and Moan Men are well-known around the area for passionately playing acoustic Blues, Folk, Roots and ‘a little bit of Jazz from the North Hampshire Delta’.

This week there’s over £100 of prizes in the weekly Meat Raffle, ‘Meats & Beats’.

Since publicans Victoria and David took over, their meat raffle has evolved into a fun and entertaining draw where winners are expected to ‘do a little dance to accept their prizes; there’s also a ‘Beat the Intro’ music quiz and Kevin’s Catchphrase on the pub’s big screen.

Meat raffle prizes are supplied by butchers Geoff Aubrey and Sons in Oakley, who launched their new retail shop on Oakley Lane last week.  This week’s prizes include Rump Steak, Jacob’s Ladder Beef Short Ribs, Lamb Pinwheels and Royal Mint and Rosemary Lamb Rump.

Landlady Victoria says, “Tomorrow’s bumper event starts around 3pm, after our diners have finished their Sunday Lunch.

“We are proud to have been TripAdvisor’s number one restaurant in Overton since we opened in early 2022 and we really try our best to ensure customers get a unique, value-for-money and enjoyable experience.”

The Red Lion’s Sunday Lunch includes a choice of 5 meats presented in a family-service style so no-one argues about ‘not eating their greens’.

Lunch is followed by ‘Meats & Beats’, bringing back the old traditions of having a meat raffle in a rural pub, but since November 2022 this has included a music quiz and more recently, a mixture of both live music and nostalgic games of Roy Walker’s Catchphrase on the big screen, where customers identify the song or musical artist from the unveiling squares.

The family-run free house on Overton’s High Street is also currently looking for other performers to join their Friday night and Sunday afternoon roster of acts for next year – if you are a local musician, the pub would be happy to hear from you via their Facebook page.
