It was heartbreak at the death for Overton United as they bowed out of the Hampshire Saturday Trophy in the cruellest of fashions, losing 2–1 to Southsea Sports with virtually the last kick of the game.
After a tense first half, United found themselves behind in the first half, but the visitors hit back strongly. Dan Schofield levelled the score midway through the second half, giving Overton real momentum as they pushed for a winner.
However, just as the tie looked destined for extra time, Southsea snatched victory at the death – a gut-wrenching finish that leaves Overton wondering what might have been.
The result ends their cup campaign for this season, but there’s a chance to regroup with a week off before returning to league action on November 15th, when they travel to Rushmoor.
