Age was no barrier and nerves were nowhere to be found yesterday as Jacky Lessware, a beloved figure in the local community, soared to an incredible 1,000 feet above the Gloucestershire countryside on the wings of a vintage biplane – all in the name of charity.
Just two weeks away from her 90th birthday, Jacky completed a jaw-dropping wing-walk to raise funds for the local community pool, a treasured facility that has long been at the heart of village life. With clear skies and rolling green fields below, the dramatic stunt took place just north of Cirencester, offering Jacky and spectators alike a stunning aerial view of the Cotswolds.
The spectacle was made possible by the expert team at Aerosuperbatics WingWalkers, who ensured everything went off without a hitch. Known for their daring displays at airshows across the UK, the team provided not only technical expertise but plenty of encouragement and support throughout the day. Friends, family, and community members gathered to watch Jacky take to the skies, many of them visibly moved by the bravery and generosity of someone who refuses to slow down with age.
The Boeing Stearman aircraft, a striking piece of aviation history, roared through the sky with Jacky firmly harnessed atop the top wing – arms outstretched, wind in her face, and determination in every fibre of her being. The daring flight lasted several minutes and included gentle swoops and turns, giving Jacky the full wing-walking experience while keeping safety as the top priority.
This unforgettable act wasn’t just a personal triumph – it’s also part of a determined effort to raise much-needed funds for the upkeep and improvement of the community pool. The pool has long served as a hub for swimmers of all ages, from early learners to retirees, and provides a vital space for exercise, therapy, and social connection.
Jacky’s fundraising goal is ambitious, but her sky-high stunt has already captured hearts and imaginations across the region. Donations are steadily pouring in via her JustGiving page, with supporters from near and far pitching in to celebrate her feat and support the cause. For those who prefer to donate offline, local fundraiser Lauren McCann is on hand to arrange alternatives via phone.
The event has sparked a wave of admiration and inspiration, not just for the cause, but for Jacky herself. Her achievement has already become the stuff of local legend – an example of courage, selflessness, and a refusal to be defined by the limits of age.
As the dust settles and Jacky’s feet return firmly to the ground, one question is on everyone’s mind: what will she do next? With her 90th birthday just around the corner on July 13th, there’s a sense that this may only be the beginning of a new chapter for a woman who’s clearly not done surprising us.

Here’s to Jacky – a true high-flyer in every sense of the word.
