The Community Kitchen Garden has reached a significant milestone with the successful erection of a new polytunnel, thanks to funding from the Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council (B&DBC) Pride in Place Fund. This vital addition marks a major step forward in the garden’s development, extending the growing season and enhancing opportunities for local food production.
A dedicated team of volunteers has worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition, braving the elements and putting in hours of hard work to assemble the structure. Their commitment and enthusiasm have been instrumental in transforming the space into a thriving hub for sustainable gardening and community engagement.
The work is not yet complete, and the project continues today. Volunteers are warmly welcomed to lend a hand and be part of this exciting initiative, which is located behind the Redfort indian restaurant on Winchester Street. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a complete novice, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, learn new skills, and contribute to a greener community.
The Community Kitchen Garden plays a crucial role in promoting local food resilience, sustainability, and social inclusion. With the new polytunnel in place, the garden will be able to produce a greater variety of crops year-round, supporting local initiatives and providing fresh produce for the community.
For those interested in joining the efforts, simply drop by the garden today or get in touch with the organisers. Every helping hand makes a difference!
