Carpark Fest has been hailed a huge success after hundreds of people descended on The Red Lion in Overton for an afternoon and evening of live music, games, food, stalls and community entertainment.
Organised as a fundraiser for Overton Radio and Test Valley Men’s Shed, the event brought together local performers, businesses, community groups and residents for what proved to be a memorable day.
And despite the weather forecast threatening to put a dampener on proceedings, the rain largely held off, allowing the crowds to enjoy the event in the sunshine and keeping the car park buzzing throughout the afternoon.
The day got underway with popular covers from Lani Clayton, before the Overton Radio team set the scene for what was to come. John Bird then brought some country classics to the stage, followed by an afternoon packed with games and entertainment.
Bingo, the Human Fruit Machine, the Chilli Challenge and a host of other games proved hugely popular, with the Human Fruit Machine once again becoming one of the talking points of the day.
Overton Radio presenters Chris Cloke, Mel Montagnon and Vikki Fox kept the crowds entertained throughout the afternoon, helping to create a fantastic atmosphere as visitors moved between the stalls, games, food and live music.
The live entertainment continued with Jake Ward, followed by Mya Eckett performing classic covers and Take Three bringing their jazz and soul sound to the stage.
There were also two rounds of the popular Meats & Beats meat raffle, giving visitors another chance to win while supporting the fundraising effort.
Overton Radio’s own Rob Francis later took to the stage, before handing over to the evening’s headline act, FUNKLINE.
The band rounded off the day with a high-energy set of funk, soul and pop classics, providing a fitting finale to an event that had been building momentum all afternoon.
The entertainment was only part of the attraction, with the car park also packed with local traders and community organisations.
Gaynor Francis from The Village Refillery, Jasmine Jowett with her 3D toys and models, Sarah Ross from Vita Nova with handmade jewellery, clothing and decoupage items, and Sophie from Bee Bag Designs with her crocheted creations were among those selling their work.
Vilnis from VB Distillery in Basingstoke was also on hand with his range of craft spirits, while Michelle Green from The Haven provided a free sensory space for younger visitors and families who needed somewhere quieter during the event.
Car enthusiasts were also well catered for, with Adrian and members of the Overton Classic Car Club bringing along an impressive selection of vehicles, ranging from a Morris Minor Traveller to an original Paul Smith Mini.
Food was another major attraction. The Red Lion served food until 3pm, before Jeffrey’s Lunchbox took over with a selection of authentic German sausages, including bratwurst and käsekrainer.
There were also plenty of opportunities to win prizes, with Madrí offering over-18s the chance to win free pints and even a trip to Madrid.
Organisers have paid tribute to everyone who helped make the event possible, with a special thank you going to Trish, Rob and Becky for their sterling work behind the bar.
A huge thank you has also gone to David and Victoria Harber for hosting Carpark Fest in their car park and helping to provide the venue for what became a fantastic community celebration.
Station manager Rob Francis said:
“Thank you to absolutely everyone who helped make Carpark Fest such a success. From the performers and traders to the volunteers, staff, sponsors and, most importantly, everyone who came along and supported us, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
The final fundraising total will be announced shortly, with all money raised going towards supporting Overton Radio and Test Valley Men’s Shed.
And with the success of this year’s event, thoughts have already turned to 2027.
Plans are already underway for next year’s Carpark Fest, which could be bigger, better and even more ambitious.
For now, though, the organisers are celebrating a fantastic day that brought the community together, showcased some brilliant local talent and raised money for two important local causes.
Carpark Fest 2026 may be over, but judging by the success of this year’s event, this could be just the beginning.
