Beloved Overton greengrocer to close High Street shop after 12 years

A well-known independent business in Overton has announced it will close its High Street shop at the end of June, after more than a decade serving the community.

Wilson & Sons The Greengrocer says rising costs and a steady drop in footfall have made it “no longer sustainable” to continue trading from its current premises.

The family-run business has been a familiar part of village life for 12 years, building a loyal customer base and strong ties within the community. In a message to customers, the owners said they had made “many lifelong friends” and would cherish the memories created during their time on the High Street.

Despite the closure, the business is not shutting down completely. Plans are now in place to move operations to a unit closer to the village, with a shift towards an online model focused on fruit and vegetable box deliveries. Further details are expected in the coming weeks.

The announcement also included a message about the challenges facing independent retailers, urging residents to continue supporting local businesses.

Wilson & Sons described Overton as “a very special place” and highlighted the importance of backing small shops to help them survive in the current climate.

The shop will continue trading as usual until its final day at the end of June.
