The little-known story of Jane Austen’s brief engagement will be brought to the stage this weekend in Steventon, the Hampshire village where the celebrated author was born.
“Twelve Hours,” written by Phil Howe, is a moving new play that explores Austen’s fleeting betrothal, performed by actors Shona Gruzelier and Charlie Palmer. The production will be accompanied by live music from Michael Kenning and Paul Wright, adding period atmosphere to the performance.
The event takes place this Sunday (October 5th) at 3pm in St Nicholas’ Church, Steventon – a fitting location, given its deep connections to Austen’s life and family.
In true village tradition, the performance will be followed by tea and cake in the hall, making for a perfect Sunday afternoon outing.
