Watership Down Health Statement on NHS Availability of Mounjaro

Watership Down Health has acknowledged the national announcement that the medication Mounjaro is now available through the NHS. However, the practice has confirmed that it is not yet in a position to begin prescribing the treatment to patients.

In a formal statement, a spokesperson for the practice said:

“We are aware of the announcement that Mounjaro is available from the NHS from today. However, we cannot begin to prescribe this for patients until we have received both the necessary permission and funding from our Integrated Care Board (ICB).”

Once approval and funding are secured, access to Mounjaro will be subject to strict eligibility criteria in line with national clinical guidance. It will only be prescribed to patients who meet all of the following conditions:

  • A Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 40
  • At least four of the following five medical conditions:
    • Hypertension
    • Type 2 Diabetes
    • High Cholesterol
    • A history of heart attack or angina
    • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

The practice advises patients that, until formal authorisation is granted by the ICB, no prescriptions for Mounjaro can be issued. Watership Down Health remains committed to providing safe and effective care and will inform patients as soon as further updates become available.

Patients are encouraged to continue attending routine health reviews and to make use of the existing weight management and lifestyle support services currently offered through the practice.
