Toad patrol returns early on Straight Lane as migration begins

The Straight Lane Toad Patrol is back on duty from tonight after toads were spotted moving earlier than expected this year.

Volunteers will be in the road on Straight Lane every evening from 5.30pm until 8.30pm to help protect toads as they cross during their seasonal migration.

Drivers are asked to take extra care when travelling around the Straight Lane corner and to watch out for both the toads and the patrollers working in the road.

The group says even a small drop in speed can make a big difference during these short evening patrols, as large numbers of toads often cross the lane in a very small window of time.

Residents are thanked in advance for their patience and support while the patrol is operating, as the aim is simple and quietly heroic in the best village way possible, to help as many toads as possible reach the other side safely.
