Motorists and bus passengers in Overton and Whitchurch are being advised to plan ahead, as major works to a building in the centre of Whitchurch will lead to traffic changes from Monday 21st July for around 43 days.
Scaffolding is due to be erected around the building, prompting a temporary shift in local traffic flow. London Road and Newbury Street will be made one-way only, with vehicles permitted to travel towards Whitchurch Square only during the works.
The change is expected to cause disruption, particularly to bus services. Stagecoach services 76 (to Overton and Basingstoke) and 86 (to Oakley) will be diverted. Buses will run via Bell Street, past the railway station, and through Lynch Hill Park, before rejoining the B3400 at The Gables.
As a result, bus stops on London Road heading towards Basingstoke will not be served during this period. However, services heading towards Andover and Winchester will run as normal.
Stagecoach and local authorities are asking passengers and drivers to be patient while the works take place.
“We appreciate this may cause inconvenience and delays, but these works are necessary and beyond our control,” said a spokesperson. “We’re grateful for the community’s understanding and cooperation.”
Those planning to travel through Whitchurch during this time are advised to allow extra time for journeys and check bus timetables for up-to-date route information.
