One of the area’s most spirited football rivalries will be renewed this spring as the Rotten Hill Cup returns on Sunday, May 3rd, at Overton Recreation Centre.
The annual veterans’ clash between Overton United FC and Whitchurch United FC promises another lively afternoon of grassroots football, with pride and local bragging rights firmly on the line.
Overton go into the match as the current holders after a confident 2–0 victory over Whitchurch in last year’s contest. With the trophy safely in their cabinet for now, the Overton side will be keen to defend their crown. Whitchurch, meanwhile, will arrive determined to settle the score and bring the cup back across the parish boundary.
Fans can expect plenty of passion on the pitch, along with the usual mix of crunching tackles, flashes of skill, and the occasional reminder that these players may be veterans – but the competitive spirit remains very much alive.
For those unable to make it in person, the match will be broadcast live with full commentary on Overton Radio’s new pop-up station, Overton Radio 2, ensuring every moment of drama is heard by supporters at home and further afield.
Organisers say the Rotten Hill Cup continues to be a highlight of the local football calendar, bringing together players, supporters, and the wider community for an afternoon of sport and friendly rivalry.
Kick-off details and further information are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
