Radio listening figures

On the day that the UK radio sector released its latest listening figures, Overton Radio can announce it has broken the 500 listener mark.

While we appreciate it’s not the 13 million weekly listeners that Radio 2 claims, it’s certainly a really great start.

In fact, as Radio 2 has lost a million weekly listeners and Overton Radio started with zero listeners – this just might make us the fastest growing radio station in the UK.

“500 listeners is way beyond our expectation”, says co-founder David Harber. “I anticipated we might get just shy of 100 listeners in our first week and we’d grow that figure over a period of time.

“But to achieve five times the expectation in our first few days is a testament to the sense of community in the village and how people want access to local information.”

Radio 2 now claims a 24% reach of weekly listeners across the UK. With the first 500 listeners to Overton Radio (where the total target adult audience is 4,200), gives the community ‘Voice of the Village’ a 12% weekly reach.

“This means Overton Radio is already half the size of Radio 2”, jokes David.

Today the radio station welcomes Drivepoint Vehicle Logistics to its growing list of local advertisers. The company which specialises in vehicle movement and logistics is a very niche business, but wanted to commit to positive promotion of the village. We are grateful to Nick Battersby for his commitment to the radio station for the coming year.

Businesses who wish to take advantage of advertising packages are encouraged to read the Advertise page on our website. A discount is applied for the radio station’s first ten advertising businesses.
