Plans for new building at school approved.

A proposal to construct a new building for nursery classrooms at Overton Church of England Primary School has been approved by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, despite objections from the parish council.

The approved plans detail a single-storey modular building on Court Drove, which will feature two nursery classrooms, a teacher training room, break-out spaces, additional facilities, a play area, new access routes, and a car park.

While the project received backing, it also faced opposition from the community, with 100 residents submitting concerns regarding access and increased traffic. Overton Parish Council opposed the development, arguing that it was not in the best interest of the local community. However, one borough councillor dismissed their objections as “nonsense.”

Cllr Michael Howard Sorrell said “The parish council’s reaction is nonsense. The problem has been mitigated. They have an option to go into the school grounds without going past that vehicle access on foot. The problem doesn’t exist anymore, it has been solved.”

The plans were approved, with nine councillors voted in favour of the proposal, subject to conditions set by council officers.
