Members of the local community are warmly invited to a special Palm Sunday service this Sunday, April 13, at 11:00am, taking place at the Overton Community Centre forecourt. The service is being hosted by Overton Churches Together, a collaboration of local congregations united in their efforts to celebrate key moments in the Christian calendar.
Please note that there will be no morning service at St. Mary’s Church this Sunday. Instead, all are invited to come together at the Community Centre for this joyful and inclusive gathering. The service is open to everyone, whether you regularly attend church or simply want to join in the community’s celebration of Palm Sunday.
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The service will feature traditional elements of the day, including the waving of palm branches and songs of praise, and is designed to be a welcoming and uplifting experience for all ages.
In the event of bad weather, the service will be moved indoors to St. Luke’s Hall, ensuring the celebration can continue without disruption.
For families with young children, there will be special activities to keep the little ones engaged, making it a perfect opportunity for the whole family to participate. After the service, everyone is invited to enjoy light refreshments and a time of fellowship, allowing the community to connect and share in the spirit of the season.
In addition to the in-person gathering, Overton Radio will be recording an audio-only coverage of the service. For those unable to attend, the full service will be made available to listen on the station’s new Catch-Up Service, which can be accessed at overtonradio.com/catchup. This is a great way for those who cannot make it in person to still feel part of the celebration.
This year’s Palm Sunday service promises to be a meaningful start to Holy Week, and a wonderful opportunity for people across Overton to come together in faith and community.
