It’s another busy weekend for Overton United as all three senior sides take to the pitch in league and cup action. The First Team face a tough but enticing cup test at Bridge Street, while the Reserves and Veterans also have big matches of their own.
At Bridge Street, Overton United take on TwentyTen in the first round of the George Mason Memorial Shield, with kick-off at 3pm. The tie comes at a good time for United, who have been in red-hot form this season. They boast a 100% league record, with a run of consistent performances that have made them one of the teams to beat in the Hampshire Premier League Division One. Their only setback came in the Hampshire Premier League Cup, where they suffered their first and only defeat of the campaign.
Manager and players alike will be eager to keep that strong momentum going in the Shield. The competition offers not just silverware, but a chance to test squad depth and keep that winning mentality alive. With home advantage and the crowd at Bridge Street behind them, Overton will fancy their chances of progressing, though TwentyTen are no strangers to causing an upset – and will arrive determined to spoil the party.
Up at Berrydown, the Overton United Reserves are also in action at 3pm as they welcome Woking United Sports Club 1st. The Reserves have quietly put together an impressive start to their season and currently sit third in the table. They’re just three points off league leaders Jubilee FC, who have played one game more – meaning a win this weekend could see the title race tighten right up.
With strong performances in recent weeks, the Reserves will be keen to keep their momentum going and make home advantage count. Woking United Sports Club, however, have shown flashes of quality this season, and won’t make things easy. It promises to be an evenly matched and entertaining afternoon at Berrydown.
Meanwhile, the Overton United Veterans are back on the road after the disappointment of last week’s cup exit. They return to league action on Sunday with a trip to face Milford & Witley Veterans, kicking off bright and early at 10.30am. The Vets will be looking to bounce back and reassert themselves in the league after their cup run came to an end. With plenty of experience and team spirit in the ranks, they’ll no doubt be out to prove a point and put things right.
All in all, it’s shaping up to be a full weekend of football for Overton United supporters, with pride, progress, and points all at stake.
