It was raining goals as well as cats and dogs at Headley on Saturday, as Overton United ran riot in a sensational 9–2 victory.
The game burst into life almost immediately. Woody Tydeman opened the scoring inside four minutes before Dan Schofield doubled the advantage just a minute later. Headley found a way back into the contest with a strike on 11 minutes, but Adam Hargood restored Overton’s cushion on 20. A coolly-taken penalty on 31 minutes made it 4–1 at the break.
The second half was every bit as frantic. Hargood netted again on 51 minutes, only for Headley to briefly rally with a penalty on 57. Any hopes of a comeback were swiftly crushed as Schofield struck again on 61 minutes, Louis Wilson added his name to the scoresheet on 75, before Schofield and Wilson both bagged late goals to complete the rout.
It was a wet afternoon to forget for Headley, but for Overton it was nothing short of a goalfest masterclass.
Next up, Overton United return to Bridge Street next Saturday at 3pm, as Nursling & Shirley make the journey in the first round of the League Cup.
