Overton United have opened up a six-point lead at the top of Hampshire Premier League Division 1 after a convincing 6–2 victory away at Mob Albion.
Adam Hargood set the tone early, opening the scoring after 11 minutes. Macauley Martin then struck twice in quick succession on 16 and 22 minutes to give Overton firm control of the match.
Mob Albion pulled a goal back before the break to make it 3–1 at half-time, and added a second shortly after the restart on 49 minutes to reduce the gap and lift the home side.
Overton, though, stayed calm and finished the contest strongly. Two late goals in quick succession from Danny Schofield and Adam Hargood restored a comfortable lead, before Hargood completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute to seal an emphatic away win.
The result extends Overton United’s advantage at the top of the table to six points as the promotion race continues to take shape.
Meanwhile, Overton United Reserves are out of the Saturday Vase after a narrow 3–2 defeat away to East Cowes FC on the Isle of Wight.
The reserves trailed 2–0 at half-time but showed real character in the second half with a brave fightback. Despite pushing hard for an equaliser, they were unable to force the game further and bowed out of the competition.
