Overton United Bow Out of George Mason Memorial Trophy After Late Defeat

Overton United were knocked out of the George Mason Memorial Trophy on Saturday afternoon, after a narrow 2–1 defeat to Basingstoke side Twenty Ten at Bridge Street.

It was a tense and evenly-matched encounter, with both teams struggling to find a breakthrough in a goalless first half. Chances came and went for Overton, but the visitors proved difficult to break down.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 76th minute when Twenty Ten took the lead, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot the ball home past the Overton keeper.

Overton responded with determination, and their persistence paid off when Adam Hargood levelled the score from the penalty spot on 84 minutes — sparking renewed hope among the home supporters.

However, that hope was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Twenty Ten struck again, reclaiming the lead and ultimately sealing their place in the next round.

It was a frustrating result for Overton, who showed resilience and spirit but were undone by two late goals. The focus now turns back to league action, where they’ll be looking to bounce back quickly from this cup heartbreak.
