Overton is getting ready to kick off the festive season with a packed weekend of Christmas celebrations, including late-night shopping, the return of the village Christmas Market and the popular Christmas Light Tractor Run.
The festivities begin on Friday 27th November, with Christmas late-night shopping taking place around the village from 5pm. Visitors can browse a variety of shops and stalls, enjoy the entertainment and soak up the festive atmosphere, ahead of the big moment when the village Christmas tree lights are switched on at 7pm.
The celebrations continue on Saturday 28th November, with the Christmas Market taking place from 12pm until 5pm.
There will be plenty of opportunities to pick up some Christmas gifts and support local traders, community groups and independent businesses.
Among the stallholders confirmed for the market are Overton Guides, Overton Brownies, The Village Refillery, Overton Community Pool, Wired by Ruth Williams, Jo South Artworks, Vita Nova Jewellery, Caviste, Old House at Home, Cakes by Maze, Community Kitchen Garden, Befestooned, Little Brown Dog Ceramics and Gamekeeper’s Honey.
The Overton Radio team will be hosting the event, with the ever-popular snow machine making a welcome return. There will also be musical entertainment throughout the afternoon, with the full line-up due to be announced shortly.
Younger visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Father Christmas. Parents wishing to arrange a visit for their children should look out for the form in the latest edition of News and Views, which can be completed and returned to Parnell, Jordy and Harvey on Winchester Street.
And the festive celebrations don’t stop when the market closes!
Visitors are encouraged to stay in the village for the Christmas Light Tractor Run, which is expected to arrive in Overton from 7pm. The illuminated tractors are always a popular sight, bringing plenty of festive sparkle to the village streets.
Following the market and tractor run, stallholders and drivers taking part in the procession are being welcomed to The Red Lion in Overton for a free cup of mulled wine as part of its ‘Tractor Run After Party’.
With late-night shopping, the Christmas tree switch-on, a bustling market, Father Christmas, music, snow and a procession of illuminated tractors, Overton is set for a wonderful weekend of festive celebrations.
It’s a great opportunity to support local businesses, catch up with friends and enjoy the start of Christmas in the village.
