Overton Cricket Club Weekend Roundup: First XI Clinch Tight Win, Seconds and Thirds Fall Short

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Overton Cricket Club — with the First XI proving their mettle while the Seconds and Thirds will be looking to bounce back hard next time.

The first XI kept their winning momentum alive with a gutsy four-wicket victory over Hartley Wintney 2nd XI. Hartley Wintney set a challenging target of 200 runs but were bowled out in 39 overs. Overton’s chase was steady if not spectacular, eventually reaching 202 for 6 in 42.2 overs. The star of the show was Andy Galvin, who smashed a crucial unbeaten 84 to steer his side home under pressure.

In contrast, Overton’s Second XI couldn’t quite keep pace, falling to Oakley 2nd XI by four wickets. Despite posting a respectable 183 all out in 39 overs, they couldn’t stop Oakley from reaching 185 for 6 in just 38 overs. Toby Deacon’s 38 was a solid contribution but ultimately wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

The Third XI also suffered defeat, losing to Oakley 3rd XI by 31 runs. Oakley were dismissed for 170 in 37.5 overs, but Overton’s reply fell short at 139 all out in 35.1 overs. David Thompson’s 45 and Ollie Rose’s 35 showed fight, but the runs just weren’t there on the day.
