Overton 5 Race Returns This September

The iconic Overton 5 is back for its 36th edition on Sunday September 7th with a new start time of 10.30am, inviting runners of all abilities to take on the scenic five-mile course through the rolling hills and countryside that inspired Jane Austen. This year’s race forms part of the 2025/26 Hampshire Road Race League.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner chasing a personal best or looking for your next 5k challenge, the Overton 5 promises a course as rewarding as it is picturesque. Fully closed roads ensure a safe running environment, and the event continues its commitment to sustainability, remaining entirely plastic-free.

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen, participants are encouraged to explore the Jane Austen walking trail after the race. The route begins in Overton and passes her childhood home and local church. Trail details are available at the Overton Parish Council website.

Entries are £22 for non EA-affiliated runners and £20 for EA-affiliated runners, with all finishers receiving a commemorative race memento—perfect for conquering the famous Overton hills.

Fun for the Whole Family
The Overton 5 is more than a race. Kids can enjoy free races on the field at Race HQ before the main event beginning at 9.30am, while refreshments, cakes, bacon sandwiches, and an ice-cream van will be on hand. Adults can also enjoy a fully licensed bar for post-race relaxation.

Adding an extra layer of excitement, Overton Radio’s Rob Francis will be hosting the day’s fun and games, keeping spirits high both on and off the course.

The start is a short 10–15 minute walk from the Race HQ, giving runners the perfect warm-up before tackling the beautiful, hill-strewn course.

For anyone looking to combine fitness, family fun, and a touch of literary history, the Overton 5 is the place to be this September.
