Residents in Overton are being urged to give up a single hour to help keep the village clean and green, as the local Tidy Group launches a new community drive.
The volunteers in high-vis jackets who sweep leaves, clear weeds and pick up rubbish are members of Overton’s Tidy Group, a small team with a big impact. They work under the umbrella of Overton Parish Council and spend regular time caring for the village. The group hopes the new pledge will show how powerful many small actions can be when combined.
The appeal is simple: pledge just one hour. People can take part on their own, with family or friends, as part of a community group, or even as a local business. Each volunteer can choose a location that matters to them, from the village centre to the meadows or even the street outside their home.
Anyone who wants to take part can email Shelly, the Parish Clerk, at clerk@overtonparishcouncil.gov.uk with “Just one hour” in the subject line. She will send details and arrange access to litter-pickers and bin bags.
The Tidy Group hopes this gentle call-to-action will turn a handful of helpers into a village-wide effort. A cleaner, brighter Overton may only be an hour away.
