Green Week 2026 to Celebrate Sustainability in Overton

Residents in Overton are being invited to take part in a weekend of events focused on sustainability, community action, and the local environment.

Sustainable Overton will host Green Week 2026 on Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June, bringing together a mix of hands-on activities, workshops, and guided walks across the parish.

The weekend begins on Saturday with a Repair Café at Overton Community Centre from 10am to 12pm. Visitors can bring along items for repair, with services including knife sharpening and bike fixes. The Community Kitchen Garden will also open its gates from 11am to 3pm, offering a chance to explore local growing projects.

A self-guided mindfulness walk at St Mary’s Eco Church will run throughout the week, giving people time to reflect while exploring the area. In the evening, a guided bird walk led by Peter Hutchins will set off at 7pm from Overton Hill car park.

Events continue early on Sunday with a dawn chorus bird walk at 6am, again meeting at Overton Hill car park. Later in the morning, a preloved clothes swap will take place at St Mary’s Hall from 11am to 1pm.

In the afternoon, families can choose from a range of activities. A furniture upcycling workshop led by Gaynor of Renasci Designs starts at 3pm, while a family bug hunt in Little Meadow and river dipping at Flashetts both run from 2pm to 4pm.

Organisers say the weekend is designed to highlight simple ways people can live more sustainably, while celebrating the work already happening across the community.

Green Week 2026 is open to all, with a mix of free and accessible events aimed at all ages. Further details can be found at https://www.sustainableoverton.org.uk/greenweek
