Fresh warning to drivers after ducks killed and injured on roads in Overton

Residents are urging drivers to slow down and take more care after several ducks were found dead or injured on village roads over the past two mornings.

Yesterday, a duck was found in the road on Bridge Street. This morning, three more ducks were discovered at the crossroads opposite The White Hart, Overton. Two were dead. One was injured.

Local resident George Hodgson took the injured duck to a veterinary practice earlier today.

Speaking to Overton Radio, George said it is a worrying sight, especially at this time of year.

β€œIt goes without saying that we are in spring and ducks are moving about. We are lucky to have so many in Overton. Please drive carefully,” he said.

Residents say one incident might be an accident. However, finding three ducks at the same busy junction has raised real concern about how some drivers are using the roads through the village.

They are asking motorists to slow down, watch the road ahead and remember that ducks often cross between the river, gardens and nearby fields.

Locals say the wildlife that moves freely through the village is part of what makes Overton special, and they are appealing for extra care to help protect it.

    So sad 😞
As a resident of Bridge Street, this is a repeat every year. Can we please remind people – Do not feed the ducks on the road – you should only be feeding them in the water.
Also, if you are driving down Bridge Street, please drive slowly & carefully.
You should also only be using Bridge Street if you are a resident, are visiting a resident, or making a delivery- it should not be used as a cut through.

    Many Thanks 😊
