Overton United’s first team have been knocked out of the Hampshire Premier League Cup at the first-round stage following a closely fought 1-0 defeat to Locks Heath at Bridge Street.
The two sides were separated by just one goal, with Locks Heath finding the breakthrough in the 78th minute to secure their place in the next round.
Despite the result, Overton will have little time to dwell on the cup exit, with another game coming up quickly. The first team return to Bridge Street on Wednesday evening when they host Broughton, looking to get back to winning ways.
There was considerably more to celebrate for Overton’s reserves, who made an outstanding start to their season with an emphatic 11-1 victory over Liphook United Under-23s.
Overton were in prolific scoring form, with Cam Harper, Scott Winterbourne and Sam Mosdell all finding the net. Lyndon Tyson added two goals, while Louis McCann enjoyed an extraordinary afternoon in front of goal, scoring six times.
The result gives the reserves an early boost as they continue their campaign in the Mike Smith Group Stage.
They are back in action next Saturday when they travel to face Rushmoor Saints Under-23s, looking to build on their impressive opening result.
For the first team, attention now turns firmly to Wednesday night and the visit of Broughton to Bridge Street, with Overton looking to respond quickly after their narrow cup defeat.
