A beloved local initiative is getting ready to dig deep – literally – as Heritage Overton resumes its village history pit project this spring.
The community-led archaeology scheme, which invites locals to explore the rich historical layers beneath their own back gardens, is calling for volunteers of all kinds to help uncover artefacts dating back as far as the medieval era.
Two properties are already lined up for excavation, and organisers are on the lookout for keen volunteers to take part in a range of roles. Whether you’re up for getting your hands dirty as a digger, helping log discoveries as a find recorder, emptying buckets, or even washing the finds from the comfort of your home—there’s something for everyone.
The project has become a cornerstone of Overton’s community heritage efforts, offering a unique and hands-on way to connect with the past while meeting fellow history lovers.
