New Community Bus Service Launches in Overton

Overton residents will soon have a new way to get around, with the launch of a new village bus service starting Tuesday 2nd September.

The new service – numbered 740 – will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and is being funded by Overton Parish Council. Day-to-day running will be handled by Basingstoke Community Transport.

Designed for the whole community, the 740 comes with a flat-rate single fare of £3. Holders of OAP and disabled bus passes will be able to travel free of charge.

The bus can be boarded at designated stops or by using the hail and ride system – simply give a clear hand signal so the driver can see you. The vehicle is fully accessible, with a low step for easier boarding and space for wheelchair users.

Cllr Anne Phillips, chair of Overton Parish Council, said:
“The new bus will continue to connect residents to the village centre, shops, friends and family. It was clear how much the bus meant to so many people who relied on it for daily use and as a way to retain their independence. By stepping in to fund the service, we can give peace of mind to its users and open the door for more residents to use it.”
