The Great Overton Wheelbarrow Race – Friday 18th July
Start your engines (or at least your wheelbarrows) for the most legendary, slightly chaotic, and totally brilliant village tradition of the summer – The Great Overton Wheelbarrow Race is back!
🕖 WHEN & WHERE?
All competitors, chariots, and daredevils should gather at Pound Road at 7:00pm sharp, ready for the race to kick off at 7:30pm. Whether you’re racing, cheering, or just here for the chaos, you’re in for a cracking evening.
🏁 THE ROUTE?
This isn’t your average village jog. Our fearless wheelbarrow warriors will charge through the heart of Overton, making vital hydration stops at all our favourite pubs:
- The Greyhound – where there’s a hog roast sizzling and ready!
- The White Hart – expect cheer and cheerfulness.
- The Stute – for some proper community vibes.
- The Old House at Home – for a swift pint and a breather.
- The Red Lion – where things get very lively…
🎤 THE RED LION PIT STOP – WHERE IT GETS SERIOUS
This is where the race gets turbo-charged.
Join Rob Francis, your local legend and voice of Overton Radio, for live commentary with the energy of a World Cup final – only with more barrow banter and less VAR.
PLUS: Rob’s got up to 50 chances to win £1000, and every single one helps raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire).
Here’s what the Red Lion has in store:
- Lots of seating
- Tons of space
- Fast-serve BBQ
- Large bar for faster service
- Live music
- Event commentary
- Prize giveaways
- And all the village madness you love.
🎉 THE GRAND FINALE – BRIDGE STREET
Once you’ve wheeled, squealed, and maybe spilled a pint or two, cross the finish line in style at The ORC on Bridge Street where the party continues:
- DJ Craig Roberts spinning the tunes
- Licensed bar (because we know you’ll be thirsty)
- Yum Yum Burgers & Hot Dogs to refuel
- Live music from Sonny Jim to keep the energy going
This isn’t just a race. It’s a full-on community celebration, with laughs, pints, and probably a few wonky wheelbarrows along the way.
📣 Tell your mates. Bring your family. Wear something ridiculous. And don’t miss it.
All proceeds go to suport our local sports facilities – so every pint, cheer, and silly outfit is helping a great cause.
See you at the starting line!
