It was a weekend of bitter disappointment for Overton United as their hopes of promotion to the Hampshire Premier League Senior Division were cruelly dashed—despite a strong finish to their season.
Promotion rivals Crofton Saints delivered a commanding performance on the final day, brushing aside Whiteley Wanderers with a dominant 4–0 victory. That result was enough to see Crofton leapfrog Overton into second place, finishing the season just two points ahead.
For Overton, who have impressed fans and pundits alike with their consistent performances throughout the campaign, it’s a heartbreaking end to what had looked like a promising promotion push. The club now faces another year in Division One, despite a points tally that would have been enough for second in many other seasons.
Overton United will now regroup and refocus for next season—with promotion ambitions firmly still on the table. But for now, the village club and its loyal fanbase are left to reflect on what might have been.
Can Overton bounce back stronger next season?
