Tragic Loss of Overton Duck Sparks Calls for Caution on Village Roads

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Overton High Street last night as one of the village’s beloved ducks was struck and killed by a speeding driver. The incident, which occurred around 6 PM across from the Overton Gallery, was witnessed by a mother and her two young daughters—leaving them deeply distressed.

Overton Radio’s Sam Carrington arrived swiftly at the scene to assist, but the duck had sadly already passed. The bird has since been moved out of sight, but the tragedy serves as yet another reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving through the village.

This is just the latest in a string of duck fatalities this season, raising concerns among residents about the safety of Overton’s cherished wildlife. The village, known for its picturesque surroundings and thriving duck population, has seen repeated incidents of speeding vehicles causing harm to both animals and pedestrians.

Villagers are once again urging drivers to slow down and remain mindful of their surroundings. Overton is home to both people and wildlife, and a moment of caution could prevent future heartbreak.

As the community mourns yet another loss, let this serve as a firm reminder: Respect the village. Protect its wildlife. Slow down.
