Overton Youth Women’s football team played out an exhilarating 3-3 draw with Rushmoor on Sunday, in a match that was full of drama and excitement from start to finish.
The game was an evenly contested affair, with both sides likely feeling they could have claimed all three points. Overton were in the driving seat for much of the first half, with Maja, Mel, and Carol all getting on the scoresheet. Carol, in particular, had a memorable moment, scoring her first-ever goal for the club with a perfectly placed header from a corner.
However, Rushmoor were quick to respond, pulling one goal back before the half-time whistle. The visitors came out fighting in the second half, managing to score early and take a 3-2 lead, putting Overton on the back foot.
But Overton’s goalkeeper Jo was nothing short of heroic in the second half. Jo made several key saves, including stopping three one-on-one chances from Rushmoor. The standout moment came when Jo saved a penalty, blocking the first attempt and then diving to push the rebound out of play, keeping Overton’s hopes of a point alive.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the dying stages, but neither could break the deadlock. In the end, a thrilling 3-3 draw was a fair reflection of a hard-fought match, with both sides likely feeling they could have emerged victorious.
This thrilling encounter demonstrated the strength and resilience of the Overton Youth Women’s team, with strong performances across the pitch. They will be hoping to carry this momentum forward into their next match as they continue their league campaign.
