It was a mixed Saturday afternoon of results for Overton Cricket Club, with dominant performances from the 1st and 3rd XIs and a tough outing for the 2nd XI.
The 1st XI cruised to a convincing six-wicket victory over Hungerford. Bowling first, Overton skittled their opponents for just 67 in 20 overs. The reply was swift and assured, with Sam Galvin anchoring the innings with a composed 25 not out. Overton chased down the total with 22 overs to spare in a clinical performance.
It was a tougher day for the 2nd XI, who fell to Thruxton by 99 runs. Thruxton posted a target of 174, and despite Andrew Wake scoring 20 and Andy Gould adding 15, Overton were dismissed for 75 with 17 overs left on the board.
The 3rd XI delivered a thrilling victory against Hartley Wintney, triumphing by 17 runs in a closely fought contest. Batting first, Overton set a strong total of 195, led by Mike Eeles’ solid 58 and David Thomson’s 25. In response, Hartley Wintney fell just short, bowled out for 178 with four balls remaining, giving Overton the win in dramatic fashion.
Attention now turns to today as Overton’s all-conquering W10 team takes to the field for their season opener away at Hartley Wintney. Meanwhile, the Overton Women’s hardball side will host the same opponents at Berrydown in their first home league game. Both matches begin at 1pm.
Fans are encouraged to come down and show their support as the club’s women’s teams kick off their campaigns with exciting fixtures on both home and away turf.
