On May 8, 2025, the United Kingdom, alongside many other nations worldwide, will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, marking the end of the Second World War in Europe. Overton will proudly participate in this significant occasion by lighting its own beacon.
The event will take place at Sapley Lane Playing Field, with the beacon lighting scheduled for 21:30. This will be followed by a heartfelt rendition of I Vow to Thee My Country, composed by Cecil Spring Rice and Gustav Holst.
The celebration not only honours this historic moment but also serves as a tribute to all those who sacrificed during the war—those who fell, those who survived, and those who continued to fight until VJ Day on August 14, 1945, marking the ultimate end of the conflict.
The Parish Council warmly invite you to join them in remembering and celebrating this momentous anniversary, paying tribute to the courage and resilience of those who lived through these defining times.
