Rampant Overton United Hit Six Past Whiteley in Season Opener

Overton United couldn’t have asked for a better start to their season, sweeping aside Whiteley Wanderers with a commanding 6–1 victory on the road.

The opening 45 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides creating chances in an entertaining first half. United went into the break narrowly in front, but it was after the restart that the visitors really came alive.

Overton cut loose in the second half, adding four more goals without reply and showing the kind of ruthless finishing that will worry plenty of teams this season. Adam Hargood and Macauley Martin both struck twice, while Grant Powell and Woody Tydeman joined the party with goals of their own.

It was a performance full of energy, confidence and clinical edge — the sort of display that lays down an early marker for the campaign ahead. Whiteley fought hard in patches but had no answer to United’s pace and movement once the game opened up.

Attention now turns to next weekend, when Overton make the trip to Paulsgrove on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Traditionally a tough place to visit, Paulsgrove are expected to provide a sterner examination, but United will head there brimming with confidence after such a resounding start. Another strong result would only reinforce the feeling that Overton mean business this season.
