Pride & Prejudice Comes to St Nicholas’ Church

Romance, rivalry and razor-sharp wit will take centre stage in the peaceful surrounds of St Nicholas’ Church, Freefolk, as Pride & Prejudice comes to life in a unique outdoor performance on Thursday 14th August 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Marking 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen, acclaimed touring company This Is My Theatre will present a brand-new one-act adaptation of the literary classic. With a talented cast, a picturesque setting, and a healthy dash of 19th-century sass, the production promises an evening of Georgian elegance and emotional turmoil — with no shortage of laughs along the way.

Directed by Sarah Slator and adapted by Ethan Taylor, the performance condenses Austen’s beloved story into 85 vibrant minutes. At its heart: the fierce and clever Elizabeth Bennet, a family on the brink of social collapse, and the smouldering (and occasionally infuriating) Mr Darcy. If you think you know Pride & Prejudice, this fresh and fast-paced retelling might just surprise you.

Musical accompaniment by Simon Stallard and assistant direction by Chloe Bond will help transport audiences straight into the drawing rooms and gardens of Regency England — no time machine required.

Things to Know Before You Go:

  • Outdoor Performance: Set in the grounds of the historic church on London Road, Freefolk, this is theatre al fresco. The organisers advise bringing blankets or chairs — seating is not provided.
  • Parking: Limited audience parking is available close to the venue. Carpooling or arriving early is advised.
  • Refreshments: Pack a picnic and bring a bottle — audience members are encouraged to bring their own food and drink.
  • Accessibility: For wheelchair access or any special requirements, contact the Box Office in advance on 07981 227790.
  • Late Arrivals: Fashionably late? Not this time. Latecomers will not be admitted, so plan ahead.

For Austen fans, history buffs, and anyone craving a bit of summer drama (the good kind), this is a not-to-be-missed event. Tickets are available now — just don’t wait too long. As Miss Bennet might say, “It would be most imprudent not to attend.”
