Police Urge Residents to Register CCTV and Doorbell Cameras

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is calling on residents and businesses to register their CCTV and doorbell cameras as part of a scheme designed to help deter and solve crime.

By signing up through the police Community Portal, camera owners can make it easier for officers to request relevant footage when investigating incidents in their area. Once registered, participants will receive email notifications asking them to upload any video that may assist with ongoing cases.

The force stresses the scheme is free, voluntary, and secure. Police will not have direct access to any system; footage will only be seen if the owner chooses to share it.

According to the Constabulary, the scheme offers several advantages:

  • Saves time: no discs or USB sticks needed.
  • Secure: footage uploaded via a protected online link.
  • Direct: material automatically attaches to the investigating officer’s case file.
  • Effective: makes it easier to identify offenders and improve community safety.

Further details and registration are available on the Hampshire Police website.
