Overton United were beaten 1–0 by Silchester in the final of the North Hampshire Intermediate Cup at the DH Property Services Stadium in Andover on Wednesday evening.
In what proved to be a flat and frustrating contest, neither side managed to find any real rhythm for much of the match. Chances were limited, and the game struggled to spark into life, with both teams cancelling each other out for long periods.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute, when Silchester found the only goal of the game. It was enough to settle the tie and leave Overton with little time to respond. Despite pushing forward late on, they were unable to create a clear opportunity to force an equaliser.
It was a disappointing end to the cup campaign for Overton, who will feel the final never quite reached the level expected on such an occasion.
Attention now turns back to the league, where Overton continue their push for promotion. They are back in action on Wednesday evening under the floodlights at Bridge Street, hosting Headley with a 7:30pm kick-off.
