It was another successful weekend for Overton United, with the first team, reserves, and Sunday side all picking up crucial victories, while the veterans faced a tough outing.
The first team continued their impressive run with a solid 2-0 away win over Headley. Macca Martin opened the scoring, and super sub Ash Elward made an instant impact, lobbing the goalkeeper with his very first touch to seal the three points. A special mention goes to debutant Chris Tombs, who kept a clean sheet between the posts. The team now shifts focus to their North Hants Intermediate Cup Semi-Final clash against Broughton.
The reserves had a dramatic finish in their match against CK Andover, edging a 2-1 victory. Luke Hall put Overton ahead, but it was a late strike from Grant Powell that ensured all three points and kept the reserves at the top of the table.
Sunday’s fixtures saw the Overton Sunday side dominate AFC White Hart with an emphatic 6-0 win. Goals from Samie Aldoori, Richard Sopp, Scott Winterbourne, and a hat-trick from Matt Dean secured a comprehensive victory, leaving them just one point off the top spot with two games in hand. They now prepare for a trip to face Hayward FC.
The veterans faced a challenging outing, suffering a 3-0 home defeat to Ropley. They will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixture against Binfield Vets.
Looking ahead, Bridge Street will host midweek football as Overton’s Under 23s welcome league leaders Hamble Club Under 23s on Wednesday night, with kick-off at 7:45 pm.
