Overton Neighbourhood Development Plan: Public Consultation Now Open

The Overton Parish Council has announced the launch of the updated Overton Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP), which will guide development in the civil parish from 2025 to 2044. This new plan will replace the previous version adopted in July 2016 and offers the community an opportunity to shape the type and quality of future development in Overton.

Neighbourhood Plans like Overton’s empower local residents to influence planning decisions in their area. Once finalized, the plan becomes part of the statutory development framework, carrying significant weight in how planning applications are assessed.

Public Consultation Underway

The NDP has now entered the formal consultation phase, as outlined in Regulation 14 of the NDP preparation process. This stage invites residents to review the proposed plan and its policies, offering their feedback before any revisions are made. Should major changes be required, an additional consultation may be necessary.

After this phase, the plan will be submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for a secondary consultation under Regulation 16. It will then undergo an independent examination to ensure it meets required standards. Following the examiner’s recommendations, the final version of the plan will be presented to the Overton electorate for approval via referendum.

Key Dates

  • Consultation Period: 1st February to 16th March 2025
  • Plan Availability: Starting 1st February, the full plan can be viewed on the Parish Council’s website, where feedback forms will also be available. Printed copies will be accessible at the Parish Council Office.
  • Public Information Event: On Saturday, 22nd February 2025, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, residents are invited to the Church Rooms at St. Mary’s Church. Parish Councillors will be on hand to discuss the plan, answer questions, and gather feedback.
